Oil Pressure

Recommended Posts

driversdomainuk

Hi

Ok - I have got a genuine Peugeot Oil Filter to fit to my Mi soon to work out if it is that causing low oil pressure. Just a quick question I want to ask.....I was talking with someone at Loton (Ralph Pinder) another 205 driver...who suggested the idea that maybe (maybe) my oil pressure issue could be down to an incorrect sized cog/pulley whatever they are called driving the oil pump chain...?

Is there different sized cogs...as bizzare as it maybe, if I had a smaller one fitted from a bodged rebuild, it would not be making the oil pump at low rpm work as fast as it should....i.e. I could have a 15 tooth one, where the Mi should have a 25 tooth one...

Probably total rubbish, but are there different sized cogs here, and if so, is there anything I need to check when I take the sump off and have a look..?

thanks

Rob

thanks mate....

just read this on a website:

2L 26 Tooth sprocket

The XU10J4, as fitted to Mi16 and S16, has a 26 tooth drive sprocket. The 1.9L engines only have a 22T sprocket. As the oil pumps have identical sprockets, this larger sprocket spins the pump faster, increasing flow and pressure at lower revs. A 52 link chain must be fitted. Avoid cheap chains which have a joining link. They will whip and the joiner will hit the timing case. Use only OEM or Reynolds chain.

Peugeot Part # 0513 54

Both the 2L spring and 26T sprocket should be treated as mandatory for any XU rebuild.

I am wondering if someone has fitted a 22 tooth sprocket to my MI engine and not the 26 tooth sprocket.....

Just wondering if anyone could tell me the number of teeth the Mi16 XU9 engine has, and if there is any engine with fewer teeth than this? I think the MI XU9 has 22 teeth and the MI XU10 + S16 have 26 teeth?

I am wondering maybe the diesel has fewer than 22 teeth??

thanks

Rob

Looking on service box, none of the oil pump cog sizes are shown (that I've found anyway) but;

OIL PUMP CHAIN

  • DIESEL AND XU engine;

    1033 06 01 - XUD9A

    01 - XUD9 AND ANTIPOL EGR

    01 - XUD7 48 LINKS

    1033 10 01 - XUD7TE 52 LINKS

    PETROL AND XU engine EXCEPT XU9J4;

    1033 06 01 - EXCEPT XU9JAZ 48 LINKS

    1033 09 01 - XU9JAZ 50 LINKS

    INJECTION AND XU9J4;

    1033 09 01 - 50 LINKS

PUMP CONTR PINN;

  • Injection & XU9J4;

    0513 47 NFP 01 22 DTS

    PETROL AND XU engine EXCEPT XU9J4;

    0513 90 01 PUMP CONTR PINN 18 DTS +0514 92(1)

    0513 47 NFP 01 22 DTS

    DIESEL AND XU engine;

    0513 90 01 18 DTS - XUD9A +0514 92(1)

    18 DTS - XUD9 AND ANTIPOL EGR +0514 92(1)

    18 DTS - XUD7 +0514 92(1)

    0513 54 01 26 DTS - XUD7TE + 0512 21 (1)

IIRC all the oil pumps I have from 8v XU's have a 29t pump cog.

Thanks - so if all the 8v's have 29 tooth cog running off the crank, what should the MI have?

an oil filter wont cause low oil pressure, unless it had a very bad leak that is.

Oil Pump's not drive wheels, But even if youhad the smaller one you'll still have good prerssure providing the engine is good, The Turbo's like the 1.6 run a very small wheel and the only reason larger ones where fitted to 16v's was to up the pressure low down for the lifter's, When you basically start increasin engine speed the pressure relief valve takes over, Have you changed to the OE pump yet

The theory of different size wheels are the same as push bikes for example

Now that is very interesting......The original engine was an Mi turbo running 350bhp.....

I am wondering if this did have the very small wheel left in when it was changed from a turbo'd engine to a normally aspirated one??

No - oil pump not fitted yet

Thanks - so if all the 8v's have 29 tooth cog running off the crank, what should the MI have?

Service box lists the same part number for the pump for 205 1.6 / 1.9 8v's & the 1.9 Mi16 1001.56, infact all XU petrol or diesels.

The 2.0 XU10 (8 & 16v) uses pump part number 1001.77, 1033.10 52 link chain & 0513.54 26t crank pinion (see below).

I've got a pump from an XU10J2 downstairs as well & I'll check again later but I'm also sure it has a 29t pump cog. I'll also check what crank pinion is fitted because service box lists two possibilities;

  • 0513 47 22 DTS - INJECTION XU10J2 UNTIL SERIES 70950944
    or

  • 0513 54 26 DTS - INJECTION XU10J2 SINCE SERIES 70950945.

Graham.
