205 V6?

Recommended Posts

It looks like my 205 cti is not gonna sell (the Mrs has been pressurising me to get rid of it as she prefers the 406 coupe) so i have found a very cheep cleo V6 engine with all ansilleries and wireing.

the original plan was a 2.0 turbo out of the 406 exec.

but 230bhp and a v6 rumble is far to tempting.

i know pug one off done a v6 205, but i have a buget too i can do the work myself that not a problem but custome part ect

cant really spend anymore that 1.5 maybe 2k on it.

I haven't heard of anyone sticking a v6 engine in that was out of a cilo but i may be wrong

any conversions i have seen where done with a v6 3.0 from a Peugeot coupe

someone on here was doing a drive in drive out service not so long ago engine supplied for £2500

so if your doing the work yourself you should be able to do it for your £2k budget but i would imagine there is a lot of heavy and difficult work involved..

I've not heard of a clio engined v6 205. Are you planning on putting the engine in the front or rear? I'm pretty sure that it would be an endless nightmare trying to put one of these in the front

I would go for the v6 from the earlier 406 as theres loads of info about this conversion on here. Welshpug, goliath and Miles have done this conversion to name a few

It's more or less the same engine as used in the 406, but in a different state of tune to put out more power. I don't know anything more specific than it'll need some custom fabrication for the mounts and I think there's some issue with the clutch or gearchange cables/mechanisms/whatever. Should make for an interesting drive with the extra 30 or so bhp.

Is the clio engine not the later v6 engine? If so the fuel rails and wiring are one headache over the early ones. Miles is the man to speak to about these issues.

I think the later 406 engine has variable timing over the first, which I don't think the earlier Clio engine has, so at a guess I'd say it's more like the early 406 engine. But then it's a completely different application with possibly completely different management and so on, it may not be like either of the 406 variants.

The Clio V6 engine is based on the later ES9J4S V6 PSA engine that does have VVT. It would be eisier to use an aftermarket ECU for management. The Renault gearbox is different to a PSA one. Pug1offs 205V6 used the later engine so it is possible.

the engine is based on the 406 coupe engine the inlet manifold and the mapping is different thats all.

i would be looking to do it myself if i go ahead with this project altho the Mrs is going crazy about it so a bit of convincing is needed there. its out of a phaze 1 cleo v6. i would frount mount the engine and keep with the fwd set up.

IMO it would be far easier to get hold of a 406 than the clio as everything to make it fit has been done and researched a fair bit of late.

Is the MK1 clio V6 a VVT engine? how tall is the inlet manifold? is it FBW throttle? Is it multiplex/canbus or similar?

IF you can get it to run in a 205, will it run with a pug flywheel and gearbox bolted on? (as the pug box fits the 205 gearbox mounting, not a clue if the clio one does, doubt it!)

The engine is based on the later D9 406 coupe as well as other peugeots and citroens, it also has different cams. I have allways used the ealier ES9J4 engines as you can use the factory ECU.

The MK1 clio V6 is VVT, FBW throttle and is CANBUS.

Pug flywheel and gearbox will bolt on.

As said the basic engine is the same, It's just revisions of Different Inlet manifolds, Heads (On VVT) along with a host of small little thing's.

On your budget I doubt you'll have a reliable car personally, The one I have just done comes in around £5500.00 to give you an idea,

I would never stick one in a 205 myself as there's really no room for it, they need good cooling so using a smaller rad is asking for trouble, Even the std V6 one isn't upto the job when used hard.

But to make things as cheap as possible you want the ES9J4 engine found on all D8 406's, Ignore the Renaults as extra cost will creap in. You've got to be handy with the spanners and good at problem soultion's
