Fuel Pump Issues!

Recommended Posts

Alex205vtr

Howdy all,

I've recently fitted my nice VTR engine into my basic 1.1 mk1 205. Obviously the original engine had a pump on the lump, and so I need to fit a pump into the tank. The whole car has been re-wired with the full VTR loom, so I could connect the VTR pump directly (if it would fit?)

I'm unsure of what pump to put in there to be honest!

Would a 1.9 205 gti pump fit in my 1.1 tank? (it has a screw top securing disc)

Would the saxo VTR pump fit in the 205 tank?

Any over/under fuelling issues associated with?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, she's soooooooo nearly finished!

Cheers, Alex

I think you'll need an injection model fuel tank, I don't know if the saxo bits would fit.

What about a Facet type out of tank pump or something similar? Not sure if it will work but im sure someone on here will?

you may be able to use an external pump from something like a 405 MI16, vauxhall cavalier, most older BMW's etc, though locating it close to the tank could be an issue due to the routing of the original pipework, they do need to be closer to the tank than the engine.

I would not site it inside the vehicle personally, though if you build a sealed box behind the drivers seat that would make it a lot safer, though of course really only suitable if its not a road car.

you shouldn't have any fuelling issues as long as the pumps can supply enough to maintain 3 bar at an appropriate L/hour flow rate, which a 205 gti pump would as they run the same pressure and use more fuel than the vtr engine

Cheers guys, Ill try and find a Gti tank and pump, I'm sure I can sort the vtr wiring to suit. Think the difference is the separate fuel gauge sender on the 205.

If not a nice external one will have to do, although the first option is my favourite, as the rest of the car is all 205/ Saxo standard parts

*EDIT* - Would the whole MK1 Saxo VTR fuel tank fit on the 205? I have one laying around with the pump!?

Yeah after a quick measure up, it turns out they are completely different!

So this leaves me with;

Is there any fuel pump that will fit in my 1.1 carb tank?

Does anyone have 1.9 (will 1.6 be o.k???) Gti tank and pump? ^_^

(I will travel a fair distance to retrieve said tank and pump, and would be very interested to hear from anyone that has one lol!)

Best bet is to get a post in the wanted section, as swordfish is hinting at. The 1.6 and 1.9 tanks/pumps are the same.
