Coil Mounting Bracket

Recommended Posts

rescue dude

I have a modified 8 valve 1.9 running on Webers.

At the moment I have temporarily mounted the coil on a handmade (bodged up) bracket mounted on the bulkhead above the exhaust manifold. This is obviously far from ideal as its going to cook itself.

I've had a look through the parts catalogue and spotted the TU has the same coil but mounted on a different type of bracket like this.

Would I be correct in thinking that this bracket mounts on the inner wing somewhere?

If so has anyone got a photo showing where its mounted or indeed one of these brackets they can sell me?

That bracket bolts to the end of the cylinder head on the TU engine. I can't imagine it would easily bolt to a bulkhead.

However if you get yourself a Mi16 coil, this is the same as the 8v, except it comes with a handy bracket that will allow you to bolt it straight to a flat surface.

Just been chatting to Anthony from West Mids who has informed me that I'm gfoing to have to make a bracket. Damn!!!

I had hoped I may have found an easier way out of it.

You can use a late XU engine thermostat housing which was designed for mounting a coil pack on the end and as such has no hole where the distributor drive normally goes.

I got mine from a 405 Sri.

They were on loads of PSA cars, 306, 405, 406, 605, 806, ZX, Xantia, XM on the XU5/7/9/10 engines (including turbo) & that way you can get the coilpack & mounting screws at the same time.

There will be some other posts on this topic, so worth a search.

Thanks for that.

The problem I had was my engine bay is far from standard as I hillclimb my car. Its running Webers and a lowered rad for starters.

What I did in the end was make a bracket out of 3mm ali plate, cut a hole in it for the coil to sit and bolted this above the dizzy using the 2 bolt holes in the thermostat housing thingy.

Its now away from the exhaust manifold, thankfully.
