hi your best bet is to do a search as its been covered many times.

but you can take it out from the top or underneth depending on your tools.

Engine comes out the top, no need to strip the front of the car.

Did you try a search before asking? i'm sure there's plenty of topics that'd give you lots of hints and tips.

It's pretty simple really, disconnect & remove battery, drain coolant and oil, disconnect wiring inc starter and alternator, gear linkages, speedo & clutch cable, earths and exhaust downpipe from manifold, remove driveshafts and disconnect lower engine mount, support the engine and undo the top and gearbox mounts, and the engine & gearbox will lift out, you may need to move it around and angle the assembly to get them out, unless you remove the battery tray to gain more space.

Taking the battery tray out is a good idea.

As is getting a load leveler so you can put in/take out with the gearbox pointed downwards as the lump is wider than the hole if you try to lift straight up...

Id drop the engine down slightly to make taking out that battery tray alot easier

hire an engine crane.

Taking it out the bottom is a faff and is only done by stubborn cheapskates like me

I just tilt the engine/box assembly until it's at a suitable angle, then carefully lift it out.

On occasion though if i'm not in a rush i'll just whip the battery tray out though as said, 4x13mm bolts.

I agree to removing the battery tray makes things much easier but just be careful as my trays bolts had seized and the captive nuts broke off. If yours have seized try some of this STUFF.
