Distributor Vacuum Hose

Recommended Posts

tezza

i assume its been asked before but cant find an old thread on it so apologies.

found the hose just hanging there not connected to anything today. Where does it usually connect? The engine is on carbs so im assuming it used to have something to do with the standard system? where does it connect?

It pushes on to a port in the main chamber of the inlet manifold, top of the manifold an the front. On full throttle as the manifold sucks, which pulls the thing-ma-jiggy on the bottom of the distributor and advances the timing.

My terminology is not the best on sunday mornings sorry!

Usually from the throttle body, but as you don't have one it's not doing anything!

Its function is to increase fuel economy so yes you can run without it.

Sorry, was thinking 16v manifold - If your running carbs I assume its all set up to run correctly with out it

I have it on mine, it runs from the dist to a take off on the inlet manifold, but I only did it because the facility was there. If it wasn't I think I would have left it off. Does it not advance and retard the timing to compensate for revs used etc?

Tezza, is this for road or track? As if for track I don't think its really needed.

Its not really any good for the twin carb setup, as you will prob find as the inlets are so short and there is only one per cylinder you will get pulsing which will mess the timing up. If you did get the pulsing you could run one vac pipe from each tract(4 of them) on the manifold into a reseviour (spelling?) then one pipe into the dizzy, this is hardly ideal though. If you want to keep the dizzy then get a company such as H+h to re weight it.

But then again, i an on the gin!

Does anyone know where you can get this hose from?

Are they available from Pug? Part nos.?

The GTI I bought not long ago doesnt have it and fuel economy is pants.

Also if the vac advance on my 1.9 isn't working, can I use the one from my old 1.6 dizzy in my garage?

Sorry to thread hijack

I got a hose from halfords, it the one they use for the washer fluid, fits snugly but I left it in hot water for a few minutes to soften it and pushed it on.
