What 16v Golf Dizzy Fits 205?

Recommended Posts

thomasrally

Hey all

Can anyone confirm what 16v golf distributor is the direct replacement/upgrade from the standard 1.6 one?

Local scrapyard has one from a 2.0 16v golf but wont accept returns so I don't want to end up spending money in case it's the wrong one.

Any help would be great?

I very much doubt it. You'll need to reference the part numbers on it.

What I'm trying to find out is what 16v golf the distributor fits from, does anyone know?

Is it from the 1.8 16v or 2.0 16v?

I've never heard of this before in 5+ years of constant forum reading. If it is possible, you may find the answer is not going to be forthcoming as quickly as you want!

Yes you can fit the Mk2 16v Golf/Jetta dizzy to the 8v GTi, Mind you only do this to run a aftermarket ECU as it's hall effect and the ECU can take the engine speed from it,

But you cannot use it to run off the standard ECU

Isn't the crank an easier place to pick up from, or are you using sequential ignition/injection??

Not if you don;t have teeth on the flywheel, I;ve always disliked the crank pulley types as most are not that re-liable due to iffy brackets etc

Isn't there an issue with flutter from the valve train and cam belt in high performance setups??

It used to be a common topic on here, ten years ago you would have just told him to do a search. Except we only had a single page bulletin board with no search at all...

Well Im running on carbs so not using an ECU so presumably then this 16v golf dizzy is no good?

If that's the case, is there a better replacement dizzy over the standard one I could use or should I stick with standard?

So what was the general opinion 10 years ago?

205 GTIs are really good. :D

The specific opinion about VW dizzies was summed up by Miles, they were fitted as they have hall effect senders which can be used as a trigger for an Emerald or whatever. Aftermarket ECUs generally didn't support triggering via the Peugeot 60-2 crank and sender so it was about the only choice then.

Surely a re-weighted 205 dizzy is the way to go, that or mappable ignition. As mentioned before, H+H have a good reputation from what i have heard.
