What Kind Of Power Should I Expect?

Recommended Posts

fliprio

After getting the cam-belt done this week, I am getting my 205 gti-6 tuned up on the rollers, what kind of power should I be expecting? the engine is standard apart from twin 45 Dellorto carbs running on a dizzy and a Maniflow exhaust system.

Cheers, Dan

Why don't you just see what you actually get on the day?

582.78bhp at the wheels to be exact, its a bit wierd to get .78 of a horse but this one was involved in an accident and lost its tail.

or, seriously, around 180bhp?

But it really depends on the rollers and condition of the engine etc. too many depending factors to guess realistically, but i don't reckon you'll get much more still running a dizzy tbh. ;)

cheers Baz, I just wanted an idea of what is normal for that kind of spec or if there is lots of variablity. Always nice to have an idea of where it should be when getting it done.

Obveously your going to get variability between rolling roads and its more about the driveability and not just how much power the thing makes

I'd say around std power,

The 6 inlet is pretty good as it is on a std engine and loosing the ignition mapping will loose a little power too, plus depending on which maniflow you have they can loose power as well

anyting above standard will be a bonus

Im not sure which maniflow it has on it, it looks to be ~2 inch bore with a small middle box and back box, the manifold is just a modified original.

168.7 BHP @6700 was what it managed today, which is bang on std power, so cant complain

The biggest difference is the driveabilty improvement :)

sounds a bit low considering it has carbs, but like miles said the standard inlet and management is that good you'll not get close on stone age stuff.

the guys at Shenpar who built the car said that it had done 177 bhp a few years back, but the guy who tuned it today at mikeanics said that they had done a few and they dont often gain much power over standard when you bolt carbs on, he said with something like a megajolt set-up I could get a bit more.

Just fit the std management back on it, go for some kent regrinds and youll see around 180, Id say loose the carbs and dizzy !, as all the guys have said the std management and manifold on these engines is that good youll struggle to beat it

It seems to go well enough on the carbs, and the sound is also alot of fun :)

I havent got the standard injection to put back on as I brought the car with carbs.

Mine made 150bhp atw when I was running carbs and mapped ignition.

Btw I have a dta ecu for sale that would help the drivability of yours, even has my old gti6 map on it :)
