That price can't be serious, it's £500 more than I paid for my 205

mine was just a single carbon skin hense the 5 pins holding it as it liked to flap over 80 mph, was very very light though.

making a car you wont like? :)

nothing wrong with getting carbon parts whether it be for looks or lightness

Gel coat is lighter resin than clear coat though! :D

Virtually every post from you lately is negative, if you don't have anything constructive to add don't bother posting. Better still, don't bother clicking on threads you obviously aren't interested in.

sc one is actualy not to bad a price, its pre impregnated carbon, which cost more than the normal wet lay carbon crap bonnets you buy most places.

the xsport ones were just a single skin with no edges or anything on them.

so people were using FIVE bonnet pins on them and still complaining about them flexing a lot.

not sure who make good carbon bonnets that are wet layup so cheaper cost.

£1000 a bonnet, £1000 a bootlid! Wet lay is a bit heavier but probably costs less than £100 to make. At least you can use wet lay panels in racing without fear of crashing or breaking them...

yeah i agree, id never pay that for a bonnet / boot, but then again i wouldnt buy a carbon bonnet for £500 when i could get a fiber glass one thats mayby 10-15% heavyer for 50% less money.

the pre preg stuff is way stronger too and would proberly survive a fair amount more abouse than a wet lay up.

mayby what i should have said was the sc one is not a bad price for what you get. but thats like puting arrow rods and cosworth pistons in a stock 1.6 gti, yes its beter but totaly over the top and not worh it.

It would shatter like any other i'd imagine. Kevlar is where its at for flexibility. I've seen kevlar doors with massive dents just pushed out again!

There was a video i saw on the tube of some Kevlar safety structures going through testing which was bloody amazing. When i was in college we made some composite test pieces up to try and break them on a Hounsfield Tensometer. We ended up braking the machine with some pieces of 90/90 lay carbon so we resorted to doing the maths on what it would take to bust the remaining pieces. We worked out that for the Kevlar piece (bearing in mind these pieces were 50mm long and 20mm wide) it would take 3.4 tons of force to split it :D
