Line Above Rear Window Crack

Recommended Posts

stumpyjag

I am in the process of making sound the line above the rear windows on my Gti. On both sides of the car a crack has appeared in the paint so i am looking to make sound again. My question is, is it normal for this line to have filler or seam sealer in it as I have had to clean some kind of sealant out which is what has caused the cracks in the first place. And so should I clean down to bare metal and spray or should this have filler or sealant applied then re-spray. Any advise greatfully received. Thanks.

Thanks for that. Next question how do you get the seam sealer smooth enough to paint. I have tried and tried but cannot get a good finish. Even tried 1000 wet and dry but it just wont have it. Thanks.

A wet finger drawn along the sealant just after its been applied is usually enough to get a nice smooth clean finish imo.

Sealant won't sand very well because it doesn't dry "solid" enough imo.

Graham.
