Fuel Filler Neck

Recommended Posts

DRTDVL

I'm getting enough compression in the rear suspension that the tyre has worn through the filler neck thats in the wheel arch.

Just wondering what everyone else is doing as a fix for this. I know if i just replace it, i'll wear through it again.

fit the missing bumpstops and a filler neck guard (just a piece of sheet steel cut to shape and fixed on with screws)

the bump stops are fitted.

I'm wondering if the have cut down, they still have the point and there is a decent contact patch on the trailing arm.

i'll have a look into the shield.

My rear suspension is set pretty low & I'm missing at least one of the bump stops. With the boot fairly full the rear tyres occasionally scrape the rear valance. No issues with petrol filler...so perhaps your rear beam is somehow set too far forwards? Might be worth checking the mountings.

Proviso....mine is a CTi but I doubt there is any difference in this area.

195/55/15 - Dunlop Formula R's

Would they be too big? I thought 195/55 would be ok.

I've got the car at basically factory ride height also.

It's worn the filler neck directly above the tyre.

I run the Dunlop Formulas, good tyres. I also run 195/55/15, no problem on our car.

The only thing I can think of is that they do have a very square shoulder to them, so probably stick out towards your fuel pipe more. Not personally had any issue with it though.

Thanks guys,

I'll have a look at refitting the pipe a bit higher and a shield.

you have man sized torsion bars though tom :) the tyres would be 10-15mm taller than the intended tyre size, so not surprised they rub.
