P1 And P2 306 Gti6 Differences

Recommended Posts

dino20vt

Got a mate with a p1 Gti6 with a tired engine and he's buying a p2 with a knackered gearbox. The plan is remove the p1 engine and gearbox and replace it with the p2 engine and p1 gearbox so;

Are both looms/sensors the same ie remove both engines complete with all ancillaries and wiring still attached then plug back in, in new engine bay.

Have both got the same push or pull clutches?

Am I right in thinking to stop 'locking' the ECU the igntion needs to be on when unplugging?

Do they use the same management?

Thanks

A few years back I put a ph1 engine into a ph3 car. The looms (and sensors on inlet are different). Oil pressure gauge/switches need swapping too. Just spent a couple of hours swapping the engine loom, inlet and a few other bits over. It was really very easy.

So what I would do is use the phase 1 loom and ECU (with the phase 2 engine).

as long as you just use the bare Phase 2 engine you'll be fine and not need to worry about ECu's and the like.

the clutches are the same.

easiest way is to take the front panel off, rad etc, unplug the engine loom from the inner wing, hoik out the engine.

swap the loom to new engine, swap the gearbox fit any seals and gaskets as required, not forgetting the timing belt and water pump and the exhaust manifold fire ring.

then fit it all back in :lol:
