Oap Drivers? Should They Be Made To Take There Tests Again?

Recommended Posts

Richy_cti

its not just oap's there alsorts of terrable drivers out there, yes i agree that oap should have to take compatance test, aswell as a health test, i have been to proformance driving school and they said everything u learnt during your test forget because its dangerious, in theory it is the perfect way to drive but in practice its far from it, the whole system needs to be changed,

speeding is the cause of only 7% of RTA's in the UK, over 60 is down to poor driving and drivers not paying attention, i think this could acctualy be down the the speed restrictions, i have done it myself been on a national speed linit area stuck behing some old coger doing 25mph, got frustrated and taken a risk to get passed, and i find when im driving eanthusastical( accross the mounting roads) im paying far more attention to everything around me that doing 70 on the motorway.

Driving become mundane and boring and that when people make mistakes.

so IMO i think the driving test and learning should invole alot more control training and testing(my Mrs started sliding on the snow last winter and due to lack of training and knolage thought the best way to stop this was by pulling up the hand break witch resulted in a few spins and me spending the best part of 3 day putting her car back together luckely she didnt hit anyother cars).

speed restriction incressed(only where it safe obviously 70 in a built up area in plain stupid)

and compatancey test and medicals every 5 years, at a cost so they reduce our road tax and stop charging us stupid ammount of tax on petrol.

Ban people like the silly little bint that indicated right and then went left and did an U turn right in front of my van. I should have broad sided the silly cow but like a twat i just stopped. Next time she might do it in front of a lorry! :D

Ban people like the motorbiker that flew past me at about 160mph this evening with just a t-shirt on.

The signs should read: Think Bike ('Cos they can't do it for themselves).

I have first hand experience of one of the Cycle terrorists he decided to smack the wing mirror on an Audi S3 I had just bought that a mate of mine was driving it back for me and in very similar circumstances to the post from GLP He was struggling to get out of a tight space so they cyclist smacks the mirror very hard although my mate was stationary and there was no danger to the cyclist.

unfortunately for him I was 4 cars further down the road and still standing between the parked cars so I sort of tripped into the road and with all my force tried to steady myself on his side just as he passed me, resulting in our lycra clad "enviro hero" sliding some 30feet along the tarmac in some extreme amount of pain.

You've missed out motorhome drivers! Especially Dutch registered ones, doubtless because the majority must be driven by elderly inexperienced Dutch women cyclists.

Absolutely! Here in France we have to endure "hairdryer" riders, spotty kids with "motorbikes" capable of all of at least, goodness, 25mph, but of course with silencers removed so they can kid themselves they're doing at least 26mph....so of course at those speeds you have to endure the racket for a long time....& then there's the filthy stench of their crappy 2 stroke petrol. Doubtless they chuck out more crap in emissions than a 38-tonner, but that seems to be lost on the French. Strangely, however, in Italy, everyone rides serious motor bikes, so the country you'd think might be the worst is best...well, in that regard anyway!

I believe people should re test after a certain age.

I have having major issues on the way to work at the moment ( well for the past 6 months )

There is old guy who drive on a main A road ( national speed limit ) at 23 mph – He even does 23mph on the dual carridgeway.

I have seen him have 20 cars stuck behind him, and then people overtake in the stupidest places to get past. I am sure one day there will be an accident, when somebody overtakes him ( and it is frustrating doing 23mph !!! ) – ive actually followed this guy and seen a tractor over take him !

I have informed the police of this six times in total via phone, and once via email.

All but one ( who told me that he was doing nothing wrong and people shouldn’t overtake !!! ) say they understand its frustrating, but they say unless they see him, they cant act.

And so he’s still totting along in his ickle Red 205 LX

Oh well :)

They are just as bad back here. I bloody hate them  But what I hate even more is people on 2 stroke scramble bikes, who run those hideous (un)silencers on the back, and then insist on revving them as they go past. I'm sure this isn't just because I'm getting old, but I genuinely hate that racket. It's like a chainsaw going through my brain!

Yeah, used that argument, along with various other observations with the police.

They could potentially prosecute for dangerous driving, but they have told me they can't act unless they actually follow him and determine he is driving too slow.

Oh well.. You can garantee they would be behind you if you were doing 82 on the motorway

Taking the full test again would be a bit harsh but they definitely need some sort of test of their reactions. Seen alot of OAPs driving who seem to have lost the ability to move their heads left or right and that cannot be safe.

I don't think any of this has anything to do with how difficult the driving test is or how often you have to take it for that matter. All of the things mentioned in this topic have nothing to do with passing your test (apart from the OAP specific parts!!), if you did any of these on your test you would fail.

The problem is the way people see the driving test, once they pass they drive however they want. Even if you had to take a refresher test every week, people would be on their best behaviour for the test then be utter c*nts as per usual the rest of the time.

A more fitting test would be an aptitude test, fail it once and that's it, minimum 1 year ban, up to about 25, fail it after 25 and you can't drive ever, if you can't grasp how you should be going on by then then you're not going to get any better, before then it could be put down to being young and daft, by 25 you should have grown out of it!

People can argue that the test is too hard as it is, but what they don't realise is people's lives are at stake.

Another idea is to be able to report wankers that obviously shouldn't be on the road, and then something actually gets done about it! The problem is this is open to abuse, I've been reported to the police a number of times, through random arguments and them seeing it as a way at having a go at me, or for having a slightly noisy exhaust which obviously means I'm speeding

Difficult one this, The driving test means nothing in my eye's as I;ve yet to understand how some people pass it full stop, Anymore than 3 failure's and no licence for life in my book, Harsh some will say but worth it.

I know my Dads coming onto 80 now, but he's not slow by any means but having a racing background no doubt helps, but at least a test of sorts not like the driving one to mainly make sure you are safe to drive.

If we're throwing lorry drivers in too, I hate the BOC man who reversed into my Mondeo in BTB's car park then drove off, and I hate the arsehole that nearly pushed me off a motorway bridge by swapping lanes without looking, then got out at the lights and tried to attack me for it!

I also hate lorries that overtake at 0.5mph on the only bit of dual cariageway!
