Power Steering Problem

Recommended Posts

ORB

Hi folks, wonder if you could advise as to the most likely issue?

Basicly my power steering keeps cutting in and out, as if someone is pressing a switch on the car to turn it on and off during cornering?

There is enough fluid in the tank, maybe it is a little old and brown, but it was working fine till Friday night.

Any advice on what to check?

Thanks.

This sounds like when my lower u/j went on the column, does it feel to stiffen up at the same point during the turning of the wheel?

When I got mine off it was as dead as a dodo in one direction and fine in the other.

Seemed to happen overnight with mine too.

Thanks for the input, is there a surefire way to check this?

You could lift the front wheels up and see if the problem is still there, or when you turn the wheel and it goes stiff at 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock for instance that would point towards it.

I had the same problem, thought mine was the lower u/joint but it ended up being an ovalled hub!!! Jack the car and look for play in the wheels, if it is the u/joint (pas) i have one i can sell you...
