Which Bottom End

Recommended Posts

More power is the next thing for my 205 and i think 16V is the way forwards in stead of spending £££ on getting power out of a 8V. I want to stay alloy block and will be using a gti-6 head etc but which bottom end is best, cant make up my mind between a mi or a XU7 bottom end.know there pro's and con's to each but what would you guys go for? Any info or advise would be great.

Thanks Paul

'Fraid so Paul: go searching and get some ideas from what people have done on here, e.g. Cameron and perhaps even mine.

If you want alloy block - I guess for lightness - then your choices are limited. But 16v is definitely the way to gain power at a rate more favourable with your bank balance.

Look into some topics, and come back with your own ideas from what you've read, rather than just ask us outright.

Bear in mind your budget, what you can get your hands on, and ultimately what you want it for, as you haven't said.

I used an Mi16 bottom end on mine and have had good results, I haven't seen an XU7 bottom end yet although James R was going to try it at one point. It depends what you want from it I guess, the XU7 will be more of a screamer due to the smaller displacement and the long rods / short stroke combo will make your big-ends' lives easier, the Mi will have a bit more grunt throughout the range.

Whatever choice you make I'd make sure you get a complete engine rather than just the bottom end, as there will be a lot of components you'll need to mix match and modify to get the two bits to fit.
