Xu10j2 Head Gasket Can Not Cope With 30% More Power

Recommended Posts

... as written above: the last weeks i've noticed higher temps, especially under full load. the last days it got worse, even on idle the temperature rised unnormally high and i had air in my coolant-system. some minutes ago i drove a small tour round the village and after coming home i saw gray bubbly mixture in my coolant-box. tomorrow i'll put a gti6-gasket it, completely metal. hopefully this one will hold the engine power a bit longer than only 15 months. ;-)

just for information: the gti-6 has a metal gasket by stock! unbeatable price for a better-than-standard part.

oh man, what a night ...

yesterday evening i couldn't hold it back. i went for a ride, checked out the gti-6 gasket in my garage and some other tools and changed the gasket. finally, right now (5am) i did a test drive and took a shower.

conclusion of this night: the gasket itself was not the problem, the company which planed my head did it terribly wrong! the scratches from the planing where so deep that it sounded like scratching an old vinyl while i was using sand paper to fix it. the company itself is really good, they do turbo conversions, build camshafts and have good knowledge. but this time they had no time or something ... :-/ just a rough surface, the gasket held it for about one year and now thats it ... no visible spot where the water / gas came trough, the whole sealing ring looked like it there went something trough!

anyway, gti-6 gasket looks a bit better, hopefully it seals as good as the normal one because it has no sealing compound at the holes, just plain metal and an unknown layer between. the old one had green seeling rubber at the spots. i've never had such a strange failure, in 10 years!! damn it!

;-)
