Sorry, but I just had to share this.

Having had her 21st birthday about 6 weeks ago, the old girl (205/1.9 ph1.5) passed the MoT yesterday at the first attempt with only one advisory (rear disks a bit rusty). Just for good measure I've been using her for longish distance commuting (120mile round trip) the last tankful averaged 40 to the gallon.

I love my car :P

Must admit I'm pleased. The mpg feels like a bonus as its the best I've done. Don't know what's possible though...

I got a very roughly calculated 42 mpg a few months back from a cammed 1.9 running on a 1.6 box ;)

Blimey that's good, isn't the 1.6 box a lower ratio or have I got mixed up again?

Normally I get 35-36. But then, who buys a 205 and then drives to max out the economy ;)

final drive is lower yes, just means you drive a few mph slower at cruising speed for a given rpm ;)

that tankful was most certainly not boring I must add, was still fun as it entailed flowing A-roads and B-roads as well as a chunk of Motorway cruising at 3.5k rpm

just avoid excessively high rpm, heavy braking and wide open throttle, take corners as fast and smooth as you dare
