307 Trip Computer

Recommended Posts

Rob Turbo

My parents have just been getting a 307 1.4 HDi, it's a basic model, no aircon/sunroof, no alloys etc.. But I turned the trip computer on with peugeot planet and fitted a spring and peg into the existing wiper stalk to control it. Seeing as it's so simple to do, and basically every 307 does have it, it's just not turned on, why not just have it turned on as standard?

I know they charge more for the cars that do have it, but they have other things that make it that value, surely they don't do base spec, then base spec + trip computer, then every other option? And how come the dealers don't know how easy it is to do? They could be making a fortune just by turning it on for people!

Doesn't make sence to me!

Is this trip computer the same as in the 207? My dad's just traded his 307 SW (with the trip computer) for a spankng new 207CC without it, but the display that's there is very simiar to what his old car had.

I would have thought so, if you have, or know someone who has peugeot planet, have a look under the driver information section and try turning it on, then have a look in the end of the wiper stalk for the button.

It'll be due it's 1000 mile check up in the next month or so. I'll go down to the dealer's with him and see what they say while it's there. It has the button on the end of the stalk which does operate the display, but it doesn't have the proper trip computer like he had in the 307.

It's common place - most VAG Golf/Passat based cars in the past 10 years or so are similar, just needing a stalk and enabling on the ECU with VAGCOM for cruise control for example.

It's purely a ploy to make people pay extra for the features, and to differentiate the high-spec models from the base spec ones given that many features associated with top spec cars of a few years back (aircon, electric windows, ABS etc) are now standard on even boggo spec ones.

Ive heard of this being the case for cruise control too on 207s (dont know if its true or not).

Sounds about right though, bloody car companies pulling your pants down for something you already have!

It's probably the same for cruise control on the 307 as well then, there was the option to turn it on but I didn't know if there was anything else needed other than the stalk.

Cruise control needs a £45 stalk - Cybernck did this to his 307 Estate and I am looking at doing it to mine.

Rob: have you any instructions for how I can do this to mine? I was looking at getting a new COM2000 unit so I have the front foglights too, but they are so damn expensive!

There are 2 versions of stalk, first off, put a screwdriver between the fixed bit and the end that twists and lever it off, if the whole end comes off completely just go to a scrappy and find one the same (but with a button!) and it's a straight swap.

If when you pull the end off there's a ribbon cable joining the two halves (like on my dad's), put the end back on, then you pull the button blank off the end, look inside and you will see the hole where the peg would be, you can use a bit of a ball point pen refill here, and you will need a spring to push the button back out, I found one that fit over the little bump in the middle of the stalk, now back to the button blank, inline with the hole there's a little peg, glue the cut down pen refill over this, there's also 2 bits that stick out on the blank that stop it going too far in, cut these off, then push it back in, job jobbed!

That way might also work for the early type stalks with no ribbon cable but I haven't seen one to examine yet!

I don't suppose you took any pics?! The end just pops off you say? I might have to go and have a fiddle with mine. Do you think it is possible to put a front fog light switch end on it (they are usually on the higher spec cars with the push button) so I can get the whole solution?

I think the front fog switch will be a completely different part, you could always try pulling the other side off and see if there's any extra contacts inside.

I didn't take any photos but yeah it just pops off, getting the button bit out is a little trickier, but if you put something thin in the top and bottom of it (that's where the clips are) it should come out easily, I just jabbed a knife into the back of it (just enough to get a hold, not stab a hole in it!) and levered at it!!

Sorry to hijack, but has anyone on here got peugeot planet? Where is a good place to get it from and what does it cost? I take it you just need a cable to connect to the car and the software?

I've got it, I've got the genuine actia version, cost around £400 IIRC, I've had it a few years now. You can get chinese copies off ebay for about half the price though. It's not just a cable, it's an interface to go between the car and the laptop.
