This is the skimmed face, i think it's been skimmed more than a couple of times do you think this will be fine? Any other comments welcome, thanks, matt.

tbh the crack in the guide area shouldnt be a worry as long as the guide hasnt been deformed and is not a loose fit in the head and has been put in straight ,as for the head skim how much has it had taken off ,any good engineer worth his salt would have told you if it was going to be over limits

im not too sure i brought it off e bay, the head was nice and flat as it had, had a skim already, when i took it to have the guides done they managed to scratch it, so they re-skimmed it for free, so i dont know to total thats come off it. I have the peugeots specifications for xu9ja engines. so i can measure it but you need the cam in to do so. I just wondered if you could tell by looking as some heads have the rough cast still around some ports, but this has been shaved down beyond this. I have read you can take off about 2mm and it'll be ok.

the cracks around the guides are common when new guides have been pressed in ,if it was only scratched and not a deep gouge i would guess they only gave it a lick to clean it off like you say you could put the cam in and check the valve lift ,without seeing it in the flesh its hard to tell, i would just use a good quality headgasket and bolt it on

Miles

I wouldn;t trust that at all, who ever installed the guides have no idea on how to do it, Get your money back on it

Thanks for the advice guys, you have talked me into kepping my current head. i took it off today and checked it out guides and valves are fine but heavily caked in carbon. I'm just gonna get this skimmed and lap the valves in and stick it back on.
