Piper Exhausts Any Good?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Im pretty new to this club as only picked the car up 2 weeks ago. Bought a J plate 1.9 GTi and absolutely love it! Un-fortunately the car wasnt loving this hot weather as much as I am so been using your advice on here and have now fitted new radiator, thermostat, thermo fan switch, water pump and done away with the fan speed controller (yes the cooling system was really that bad!). Nearly got the car how I need it for everyday use but need to sort the exhaust out. The car is completely standard apart from K&N induction cone and a really rattly full Magnex exhaust that sounds sh...poo. Theres no CAT on the car and after reading all of the views on this, not sure wether to go for a full standard system (ph.2) or I did see a Piper system on e-bay for £180 (mild steel). Has anyone tried the Piper system as they are pretty well up there for other parts such as Cams and the like?

Also just a quick one, with the fan speed controller switch removed from the circuit, the fan runs on for about 5 mins after Ive turned the engine off sometimes. Is this normal as was wondering how quickly this might deplete the battery?

Off to fix the squeaky rear beam now!

Any advice gratefully recieved

Cheers

Although i have no experience of piper exhausts so i'm fairly useless here, i have always been put off them because of their marketing slogan "More sound for your Pound.", and that doesnt inspire confidence; not for me anyways.

Just my two cents,

Sam

Thats interesting I always though their slogan was 'Power by Design'.....oh well must have missed the other one!

I have one for my Civic and they are very well respected iand they only released the exhaust about a year back, the manifold has been giving better power gains than the Jap systems but at half the cost when they have been tested.

I would recommend them based on the one I have had. Don't know much about the designs for older cars but for modern cars they have a good reputation.

i had one of their 'Stealth' stainless systems on mine and thought it excellent; no idea about the mild systems. if they still do the stainless system, i don't think it was much more expensive than the £180 you've seen for the mild

Piper are OK. I think they were one of the few to offer a tailpipe that came straight out the rear bumper rather than at an angle. Forthe rattly magnex, it is common for the baffles to come loose inside. Why not get it split open, repacked and the baffles tacked back on? This was quite common back in the day

Seems they have dropped this slogan, so i stand corrected. Perhaps they realised the negative light it gave them.
