Hybrid Box Issues

hi guys, I need some advice regarding be1 and be3 gearbox. I had planned to use the gear set (1st-5th) from a 1.9 gti be3 box with a xsara vts crown wheel and pinion and case it turns out due to a dodgy ebayer ive ended up with a be1 box. basically i need to know if the gear sets (1st-5th) from a be1 and a be3 are interchangable and will I have any issues with reverse? Im unsure of the difference between the 2 box's other than where reverse is on the gear stick. cheers in advance.

Yes you will, Only a couple of gears are the same plus the VTS output shaft is longer

Be1 and Be3 are interchangeable if your putting BE1 gearset into a BE3 you need to flip 1st and 2nd gear selector (because it has the reverse gear attached) and flip the reverse idler gear.

Did this for a forum member who had motronic management on an s16 conversion but had a Be1 box and didnt have the CPS hole in the gearbox and transferred it into a BE3 casing for him.

Doesn't always work as there are slight differance's, even the gears are cut differently thruout the years

do all be1 box's have reverse next to 1st?

Yes reverse is beside 1st on all BE1's.
