Is It A Right Off!? T**t In A Transit.

Recommended Posts

allye

HI all,

Got rear ended by a t**t in a transit last friday, I was waiting at a round-about and he just went up my ass! Do you guys think its a right off? The mobile quote is coming round next week. It was a dyno-rod van and they are admitting all liability, paying for the repair and giving me a courtersy car. I just hope they wont right it off.

Cheers, Ali

If the boot floor is rippled, it'll be written off. Saying that, a 205 only needs minor damage for that to happen.

it looks pretty damn clean, but nevertheless, make sure its spotless when the assesor comes round.

have the 1/4 panels got any dents or ripples in them now? if not it might pull out and be ok with a replacement tailgate and bumper.

boot floor is fine, as you can see the boot slam panel has a couple of ripples, no damage to quarters, rear beam or exhaust though.

I had similar, but the boot floor was slightly rippled, they wrote it off but only a Cat c/d i think, it was listed as unfinancialy viable, but i kept the car, and repaired it with the money they paid out. So dont worry to much!

I read your build thread only yesterday, useless bloody drivers! Hope it doesn't get written off, there's been a lot of work go into it!

I think they will right it off but you should be able to buy it back and repair it with the cash you get.

Even with the boot alone it would be a write off, Add bumper, Valance and the rear cross member and I'd say your looking around £1000.00 min

oz.

Doesn't look that bad when you compare it to a 106 that's now being raced. That had the rear quarter crumpled.

Should be a fairly easy fix

i always thaught that if the accident wasnt your fault you could refuse them to write it off an only accept it being repaired, as i had this with a e36 bmw, someone hit it parked up and i had a brand new door, side trims, 1/4 repair, sideskirt and a full respray down the side, this was at a bmw body shop plus a bmw hire car and mine was only worth £2000 max at the time.

Have a look for Atariboys thread about this. He hit someone up the ass and wrote his off, but now it's fixed again and it looks absolutely stunning and turned out that the crash was the best thing that could have happend really.

Just had another quick look and there is a very small amount of rippling in the boot by the latch. I think it will be a right off which is a s*it. will see what the bloke says I guess.

yer buy it back and repair and your probably have some pennies left over :)

you will have to get it re-MOT'd and VIC'd tho but only £41 from a vosa test station so well worth keeping it

Its a write off, definatly buy it back from the insurance but dont let them take it away in the first place as somtimes they just crush them so you dont have a chance to buy it back!!!

I'm just being honest, they value older cars so low. As you and most people have said, buy it back and you can make it right for not much at all.

Hopefully get a decent payout so you'll actully be better off at the end of it.

Definitely a write off - Sorry.

They tried to write off my Rallye when some pillock put a dent in the drivers door!

Incidentally I am going to be breaking mine in the next few weeks so if you need any bits then let me know.

Not necessarily. I've had two 205s written off by other people.

Lack of time and money now that I have a young family.

It's not worth hanging on to just for the shell which has too much rust from an old accident repair plus an after market sunroof which bugs me. It need a couple of bits done for the MOT and as the shell isn't worth spending the money on the Rallye has been relegated to sitting on the drive, especially as I've got a 1.6 gti for my daily driver. Not the other half wants it to go and I can't justify keeping it :)

its a total loss the parts and labour alone would right it off, some one came to get an estimate just to paint a focus st bonnet red and i overherd the estimate and it was £500 now i know we do a good job and we are a pas 125 garage but £500 to paint a bonnet so at these sort of prices yours is defo a right off

Hello Allye.

Bit of a long shot.... but did I see you going through Shrewton on Saturday? I was in a red 1.6GTI pulling out of a turning.

Been stamping my feet and emailing the insurance a lot consisting mainly of a long rant reference the engineers report and they have now turned round and said they will completely fix the rallye! Proof if you annoy insurance companies for long enough they will sort their lives out!

Though you should know!
