Love Summer.. Hate Overheating!

Recommended Posts

TU_Later

The GTi's overheated after going out for a ten minute drive at a standard 60-100 down the dual carriageway.. I looked under the bonnet and the waters been pissed all over the engine and the rad's pretty much dry.. So i fill it up again and let him cool down for an hour.

Took it out again, easy going driving, overheats after ten mins again!

Please help? I'm useless with this topic, cause it's fraustrating.. I'm sure it'l either be an air-lock or thermostat. Is this common? Just so i know where to poke about in the engine bay later this evening..!

Steve

Well the oil looks fine, cap's clean.. :S But maybe.. It's throwing water out from the pipe that goes to the thermostat, So i'm hoping its just that? I'll just take the thermostat out and hope for the best. Nobody needs heaters this summer haha

if water is pissing out, then you most prob's have too much pressure in the system.

PLEASE tell us you didnt fill the car up with COLD water when it has just been OVERHEATING ?

Don't take the thermostat out, just find the leak.

Right, Found the leak.. The hose bend just before the thermostat.

NO, I used luke warm water from my s*itty kitchen tap that is neither cold nor hot. Haha

I'm gonna order a new hose today, Last night I topped it right up and despite it dribbling out of the split hose, It didnt overheat!

So, I'm guessing it must have trickled out on a long drive back from Cornwall last weekend and when I got home and took it out to the shop after, it therefore overheated because there must have been very little water in.

Problem solved ;)

Cheers Guys

And it wasn't pissing out.. Thats was an exaggeration as I was in an annoyed panic on a hot day  Apologies

'Pissing' out would be my old mk1 polo, when the rad rotted, got hot and destroyed itself down half of the M5.
