Autoglym Clean Wheel Spray

Recommended Posts

Paul_13

I used this on my wheels the other day, didn't read instructions as they are not for men and the paint has started to look grey/white.

These are the same wheel that C.G Cars sell/refurb.

I understand it's an acid and doesn't take lightly if left on surface for a while and not washing off with water after.

I used wax spray on them earlier and it's seemed to bring them back up. Now will lacquer work or mess things up?

It certainly isn't that harsh an acid at all and the wheels should stand up to it, i'd be a little bit suspect of the quality of finish if an off the shelf cleaner is attacking them like that tbh.

ORB

I use full fat wheel acid at work to clean up my wheels and have to water it down to stop it stripping the paint. I used the Auto Glym stuff that I got free on my wifes Audi the other day and I was VERY unimpressed with it. It is VERY VERY weak stuff. So as Baz correctly states, I would be worried about the actuall wheel finish as it should not dull the paint at all.

Exactly, as an ex-valeter/''detailer'' i've used proper hydrochloric acid for years, as ORB says it needs to be mixed to different ratios dependant on what you're doing, and once you've used it, shop-sold wheel cleaners, Wonder-wheels etc seem piss-poor.

At times when left on or not watered down enough, they've taken a bit of the shine away from wheels, but never that bad, and i certainly wouldn't expect it from something like an AG product that are made to be safe as houses for any user!

Says alot about the paint finish then, it's f*cked them basically. The idiot had even sprayed the centre caps when they were in the wheel. So when I popped them out to get tyres fitted and balanced quite a bit of the paint came off around it.

The centre caps also lost there colour after a quick blast with jet washer, and that was trying to stay away from the wheels.

I'll get some pics tomorrow and post them up.

Hmmmm... i'll give the lacquer a go.

Piss poor paint quality I'm afraid, rattle cans perhaps?

I painted my wheels in EVE silver 2k with 2k lacquer over the top. They are now 18 months old, have done trackdays and gone black with brake dust. Used AutoGlym wheel cleaner on them every couple of weeks at least, sometimes much more. Still look like they did when I had just painted them.

I bought them off a mate, who bought them off CG Cars.

Here's a pic, not the best but you get idea. These wheels had just been cleaned and dried!
