Long Fan Switch

craigmi16

hi my fan switch in the rad stopped working ages ago in my mi16 205 but wasn't really an issue over the winter but now its warmer so i got one at weekend and fitted it.

at the parts place i use there was a few i could of got ones with 2 pins inside or 3 pins the multi plug that fits onto it has 3 connectors in it so i got the one with the 3. so i took out my old knackerd one and it only had 2 pins on it but it still worked a few months ago but i fitted the 3 pin one anyway and like clockwork the fan kicked in when it should have and cooled it right down but wouldn't go off so i turned the engine off and it went on for another 5 mins so i took it for a drive for a few mins and it went off when i was driving i dont think this is quite normal any ideas on what to look for ?

thank Craig.

you need to find ut the temp swith as sounds like its coming on till the temp drops lower than the one u had before did change one of the sensors in the thermostat on my old mi16 and it was the opisite my fans were coming on too late, so sounds like you got the wrong rad switch

Its normal for them to run on until the coolant has dropped in temperature to open the switch terminals again.

Its a safety thing for under bonnet temperatures as they can increase once you've stopped.

Graham.
