Damn Bonnet....

Help me out here people, please.

Last weekend I cleaned the car and decided I was going to leave it at home instead of at work all week.

I thought to myself I shall disconnect the battery to save the alarm going off, or wearing down the battery.

Do you think I could open the bonnet? No!

I have used the search function on here, and used some of the info.... to no avail.

I have removed the front grill(In anger - I have a spare) and looking through the gap I can see a spring attached to a catch.

And the manual is of no use whatsoever!

So.... what to do next?

Help me please.

From underneath the car i've reached up between the rad and engine and managed to feel around the top of the rad/slam panel for the bonnet release cable a few times after doing silly things like leaving my keys under the bonnet on a locked car...

Worth a try? I presume you're bonnet release catch has broken or similar? :D

I think it may be a stretched cable, its still attached but ain't giving in.

Maybe the lock is jammed in the hole... (ooo eerrrrr)

I shall have another look in a bit.

try getting someone to place pressure on the bonnet as you tug at the cable.

Have you not got a local Pikey site?

Grab a 9 yr old from there , it will take him seconds.

He has to do it with his old Transit all the time.

If you actually got the grille off, you will manage to open it by sliding your hand under to where the catch is, with the other hand push down on the bonnet with a fair bit of force, then squeeze the catch upwards. I have to do it with mine at the minute as the release is knackered.

I can be done, but it will be tight.

I tried to put my fingers under the bonnet to pop the catch.... big hands... no good.

So, I lay down on the floor and put my hand up between the rad and block.

Fumbled around for a few minutes and eventually found the cable.... gave it a yank and pop went the bonnet.

I shall have to change the cable I think, a job for Monday if I get the chance.

Thanks for all ya help.

;)
