Not A Smoothly Run

Recommended Posts

Good evening,

I have this 1.9 GTI 130 bhp engine. It is in a 205 from '87 (February) and it does not have a catalyst.

When I drove today, the engine suddenly did not want to drive well. It does not run smoothly at all. I stopped and when it had cooled down, it drove perfect again. But at the time the engine became hot again (hot as working temperature) the engine began runing bad.

I checked the plugs and they look fine.

I wonder what it is? In idle the engine runs pretty normal. At least I can not hear or feel any difference. I think it is strange the engine runs smooth and well when it is not hot?

Here is a video to illustrate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNry2YntXGg

I hope you understand me, or else please ask.

Have a nice weekend :)

Mine did this when the air temperature sensor had failed... makes sense with the hot/cold thing

I do not know if it is the same I thought about. Where is it placed?

I wondered if it could be the sensor which measures the engine temperatur. When the engine gets warm tha fuel mixture is too thick because it thinks the engine is cold. Is it that sensor, you are talking about?

Have a read of this

I guess its different to mine, must be part of the Air Flow Meter (AFM). I could have sworn there was a temp sensor on the side of the inlet manifold but I guess not!

also try another coil as when there on there way out when they get hot and underload it will break down and misfire

Thank you to both. I will try to fix one problem at the time until I find the real problem.
