My GTi is in for MOT tomorrow after being on "extended leave" in the garage under a pile of crap for the last couple of years . Last MOT ran out Dec. '07.

Just need to put a set of wheels on tomorrow and all is ready (I hope)

I need to get my GTi fix back- life has been rather boring without it.

Just back from the test- as usual the car was a cow on test day, driving onto the ramp it dumped all it's coolant on the floor :) fan wasn't cutting in so wired it direct and re-filled. 1/2 way through the test, turned key and nothing happened, the bloody suspension shaker shook the solenoid wire off!! CO needed tweaking (have you guessed yet that my MOT tester is a star? - even put a nice big bar on the wishbone bolts to loose a bit of play :D )

Upshot is - PASSED B):D advisories on "slightly perished" front brake pipe and "slight play" in a droplink ball-joint - plenty of time to get that and the rad thermoswitch (or corroded connectors) sorted before taxing on 1st July. It's great to have old faithful back :)B):D :D

HA! I reckon betwen us we've caused this weather - my CTi is laid up, too :( I may just have to MOT the little 1.1 and sell that to release funds to put the CTi on the road.......... all I need is to swap an engine........

Would be awesome to "6" J5 :D

Taxed yesterday :D :D :D :D and finally getting around to sorting the paintwork on passenger side - 4 years after doing the driver's. Things seem to have moved on in the time its been locked away. I don't remember a GTi drawing as much attention on the road, must be more thought of as "classic" now. So glad I didn't give in and break it - came close a few times just to clear the decks a bit. .

If, like me you get disheartened every time you look at a laid up car - with everything going dull / oxidised and covered in crap - give it a polish. I took mine out of the garage to do an engine change on the CTi and everything sort of followed on from there! It wasn't half as bad as I'd managed to believe it had become. So get out there and show those laid up Pugs some love <_<

Is this the one that you rattle canned? Doesn't seem that long ago that when you were posting the progress. How time flies!

Mine passed its MOT yesterday for the first time in my country!

I just transported it here so it got its first time ever icelandic lisence plates and passed with only the man pointing at my lisenceplate light and the security triangle. :D

The very same! Did about 75% of it before getting bumped on a roundabout and losing interest. That was my son's 16th birthday. He has just finished his first year of university - so a fair while ago . Just rattle canned the rest :D and now I'm getting a work out with the 1200 grit and t-cut as well as the steering. (don't remember it being quite so heavy)

Typical 205 fashion, the speedo packed up today :)

Well, today the petulant little ***** had more fun and games. horn packed up (and fixed itself) starter motor wouldn't engage - the male spade on the solenoid has snapped off :) and the driver's seatbelt locked and then totally loosened. Just to make matters worse it's a rather nice Roland Garros red one :D:angry:

I've rebuilt the mech on the seatbelt using parts from the belt in the 1.1 . The spring had broken on the red one. Speedo was only that the cable had come unclipped from the back of the cluster - sorted. Will replace the starter tomorrow and change the engine mounts. I'll probably replace the ECU for one with a rev limiter, too.(Although it is fun without  )

Then it should be time for something else to break. Remind me again why we do this?
