Noisy Starter Motor

I've just fitted a new starter motor after the old one conked out. Now when the engine runs I get a nasty rattling sound. As the starter is the only things that's changed, that's the main suspect. It is bolted on tightly, so why could it do this? Has anyone experienced a starter that rattles when the engine is running?

If you have not put the locator lug back in the center bolt then it will be noisy as hell

Locator lug? I haven't noticed that in the past. I'll try and have a closer look later.

I'm guessing GTI6BOY means the collet/sleeve type thing that goes in the hole for the top front bolt.

 

I've got a spare if you need it, as I've just replaced my motor and the new one came with the sleeve.

I'm just looking at servicebox, and it appears to be item 6968-43. I'll see there is one in there, whether the old motor has one (I had another old motor to give back for surcharge). I'll let you know whether I need it, thanks for the offer.

As it happens I found one down the scrappy. Yes, it's fixed the problem; no more noises and the starter engages on the button, and she's starts like new now (famous last words....).
