Oil Pressure Guage Not Working Now

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

when i thought i had an oil leak from around the oil cooler maybe the pressure sensors i removed all the sensors (including the t piece for using both guage and warning light sensors) and ptfe'd all the threads etc to stop the leak.

it wasnt till mot time i noticed that i had no pressure showing on the guage? (was fine before).

i have checked to connections and they are all connected right so all i can think of is i now have a bad earth because of the ptfe on the threads??

i take it they earth through the engine?? if so i guess i will have to rig some kind of earth lead to it?

i have the pressure warning light come on when you turn the ignition on so i guess that one is ok.

Ground the wire you believe goes to your oil pressure gauge. If it shoots up the gauge and wire are OK.

Then you can look at the pressure sender itself, or indeed whether you have any oil pressure. <_<

well the guage is om and so is the wiring?

either i have a buggered sender or no oil pressure, but seeing as the warning light has not come on and the fact the engine is still running i guess it wil be the sender?

if i unplug the sender the needle does not move at all but if it plug it in the needle sits just above the warning light?? but does not move when i blip the throttle

right well the earth is good as i checked with resistance between the body of the sensor and the engine earth....balls

i guess i need a new sensor then or i have no oil pressure.

whats the best way to check oil pressure? mechanical guage in place of the sensor?

Ideally for true accurate readings yes but does the stop light go out?

If it does you have at least 20psi pressure iirc.

Did you try shorting the sender wire against the block to see if the guage goes full scale?

Graham.

i have shorted the wire and the guage shoots up, the light comes on when the ignition is on and then goes out when running. its odd as it was very high before i removed the sensor to sort the oil leak. what could cause such a sudden oil pressure loss? if not the sensor failing
