Forgetfullness

rescue dude

Some years ago I did my apprenticeship at a Ford dealership. A guy had bought a brand new 2.8i Capri. (told you it was years ago)

He brought it to us for it's first service which is just basically a quick checkover. He asked us to change the oil and filter so one of the other apprentices was given the job.

He put the car on the ramp, changed the filter and drained the oil. He put the sump plug back in and he got distracted by a bacon sandwich.

He lowered the car, topped up the oil and that was job done apart from a quick test drive.

He drove out of the workshop and disappeared up the road. About half an hour later a very irritated manager walked up to me and asked me to take the breakdown truck and pick him up as it had stopped a few miles up the road.

The customer didn't look very amused as his brand new pride and joy returned on tow.

He was even less impressed when the manager told him that the apprentice had not tightened up the sump plug which had fallen out, causing all the oil to pour out and had destroyed his engine.

Yesterday took half my dashboard apart assuming a bad connection for my brake lights somewhere...

Turned out to be the connector on the brake switch was dodgy

I once was fitting a new 90 degree inlet pipe and air filter onto my GTi6'd 205. To get better access I had disconnected a few sensor wires so I could get my big hands in there. Fitted all the pipes and reconnected all the wires etc. Went to start it and it wouldn't start. Bugher. Tried again with some throttle and it started - just - but it sounded rough as anything and would die when I let off the the throttle. Tried again and floored it in the hope of "clearing" whatever was wrong.

Somewhere along the line I noticed the MAP sensor connector hadn't been reconnected..... ^_^

A friend of mine recently restarted a rebuilt engine with oil in, but no oil filter fitted.

Cue huge puddle of black stuff on the floor, and very red face.
