Happy F***ing Birthday.

Recommended Posts

Out for a birthday meal with the missus and come back to see come chav scum have tried nicking my car. Smashed the driver lock and tried to break into the ignition barrel. Looks like they were disturbed as didn't get too far or nick anything from the car. Nothing was on show but had some tools in the boot and the radio face was hidden under the seat.

Ignition damage:

Lock damage:

Not had a chance to really study the damage to the column area yet, but the car was driveable so looks like I've got off fairly lightly. Still a new lock set, column bits and bobs and a bit of bodywork damage though. Anyone got anything?

Not a happy bunny.

What a c*nt! What is with people? Hopefully you'll get a good response on here for bits. I'd help but I don't think you want any beige bits do you?

Really sorry to hear this Neil.

I dread the day this happens to me. I feel its inevitable because of the areas where I have to park it. ROM is breaking a once mint white car if you need anything.

Rom's 205 is a Nissan pearl white, IIRC.

This is why I wouldn't have a 205 as my only car. I'd never leave it anywhere I wasn't 100% happy.

Benefits get slashed, so people will steal stuff. Simples.

Sorry to hear about that Neil! Where were you parked at the time? What parts do you need?

Did they attack the ignition wiring? I've got a soldering iron and shrink wrap to suit if you need a hand.

Cheers for the kind words guys. Stu: It was parked in the car park opposite tescos by the marina. I know it's got a reputation there but it was fairly busy and I was there in daylight. My missus' car being parked fairly tight on the drivers side of mine gave them cover though. I think I got off pretty lightly, they were either disturbed or noticed the immobiliser as they got access to the barrel but stopped there, so it was still driveable. Cheers for the offer though.

To be fair to the coppers they were round taking prints at 9 this morning but I doubt anything will happen.

Still got to have a good look at it but at the least I need a new lock set and the cover that goes under the steering column. Hopefully the stalk and stuff still works and I can bend it back up. Not had time to have a good look as it was gtetting dark by the time I got it home last night and I had to get into work this morning.

:(:(:(

That's a bit s**t, but atleast there's not *too* much damage and they didn't make off with the car.

The alarm should have gone off and the immobiliser wiring is reasonably well hidden, so they wouldn't have got very far smashing the column plastics off and trying to hotwire it. From what I can see from the thumbnail, the ignition barrel itself looks intact, so you could get away with swapping the drivers and passenger locks over (or just putting a random lock in the passenger side) and you'll still have a matching lockset for all the locks that you'll likely to need the key for.

Hope you get it sorted and back to its former self shortly :)

I would have thought the majority of people trying to steal 205's were joyriders though, rather than trying to break them for parts.

Sorry to hear that, It seemed to me that Swansea was getting better for car crime but obviously there are still bad spots. Then again I didn't bring mine down until I could find a garage to keep it in, and even then I am still a bit edgey about it!

If it is any good to you, I have one door lock (well I have 2 but one has been savaged in a similar way to yours!), and ignition barrel and a boot lock you can have FOC?

I had my 205 broken into in swansea two years ago I think. I got away very lucky though. They put a screw driver hole beside the drivers door lock and they stole my ashtray (its a ph1 and I still haven't got a replacment) with a whole 20p and a sea shell in it. No other damage. Not a nice feeling though. Hope you get her sorted easily enough.

Dunno if the alarm went off, it did when I opened her up though! Got away very lightly to be honest. I plan on swapping all the locks as I want to keep a single key really, is it a big job?

Looks that way from this and when Stu's 205 was joyridden. They didn't take anything I don't think.

It's getting better than it was but still pretty bad. Police have been as helpful as I could have asked for so they seem to be trying, doubt theres any hope of catching the f***ers though.

Orb, that would be great to get the car back on the road again. I'll give it a day or two to see if anyone has a full lockset to save me changing it twice, if not then I'll give you a PM. Another favor I'll owe you!

They stole my new head unit (Aldi special £35!) and also a box of a fasteners (brand new nuts and bolts) that probably cost about £50. the destroyed clutch and flat tyre where much more annoying.

Nope, it's straight forward enough - less than an hour certainly ;)

Err, i'd say a little more than an hour unless the car's stripped out so has no door cards, steering column cowling etc to remove first.

Who would know a lock set is so much trouble to get! Thought there would be loads with the number of cars breaking at the moment! GSF have them but I don't have £70 to spare at the moment, and does anyone know if they include the glovebox lock?

On another note I'd like to nominate ORB as member of the week! He helped me out a while ago and was willing to go to a lot of trouble to provide me with locks now, top guy!

Oh, and another quick question, where they've smashed the underside trim off they seem to have broken where the trim attaches to the trim over the steering column. Having never seen one of these apart and not having it all for reference as it was taken for fingerprinting I assume I need to replace the upper and lower trim parts, is this the case?

sounds likely, mine never fitted properly after it was nicked.
