Mi16 Engine Code/location?

Recommended Posts

Guest ra**ye

Need to know the mi16 (alloy block) engine code? So that i can change it on the log book from a 1.6.

Also my speedo doesnt work. iv taken it out of the gearbox spun it with my fingers and the speedo moves fine. So im assuming that the cable is fine! What else could it be?

Thanks in advance for any tips/help, Sean

Look for a metal tag/plate attached to the engine, but don't be surprised if it's gone, as it's only riveted on and usually falls off.

You'll find one smaller one with black text saying "PTC" and then "D6C" (Mi16 alloy block 1905cc) or "RFY" (Mi16/S16 iron block 1998cc).

The actual engine ID number will be on another similar plate with only stamped digits.

Speedo cable might be disconnected at either end or knackered. They do fail. Speedo clocks rarely break.

The engine number is stamped on a metal tag riveted to the back of the block at the timing belt end - right in the corner where it meets the head:

The Mi16 engine cc is 1905cc, just like the 205 1.9 GTI engine.

Iron blocks are 1998cc but as you have an alloy one thats un-important.

Speedo cable might not be locating into the gearbox drive properly, I have fun getting mine working again after disconnecting it for stuff.

To replace both parts you need to drain the gearbox oil, remove the offside driveshaft & then the speedo housing can be unbolted from the gearbox.

DVLA will accept that the number has fallen off, or at least they did for me.

You need other supporting documentation these days to change your engine on the V5, engineers report, reciept for the new engine etc. It's covered on the DVLA website.

It was 1.9 8v to 1.9 Mi so no change in CC but essentially yes, they just took out the engine number.

Although as above I did have a receipt from the guy who fitted the engine.
