Ordering Car Parts

Recommended Posts

RP1983

Hi everyone

I need some help/advice on ordering engine parts.

I need rings and big end bearings for an 1900Mi engine.

When trying to order these parts from anywhere they keep asking for either chassis number, Registation or even both.

I dont have a 405, just the engine so am hitting a brick wall. I dont want to end up with the wrong parts ideally but am willing to take a punt based on my information to them(engine codes etc)

I cant even get anyone to supply them at the moment. All I keep hearing is there are different ones and they need the vehicle details to confirm the exact parts, they just dont want to know. I can only assume they think I dont know what I'm on about.

What has everone on here done when surely being faced with the same problem?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know what size bearings and rings you need, I'm afraid there are different types for both and really they would need checking first.

Miles, I need standard size big end bearings afaik. I measured the crank and it would appear it has never been ground

I thought the rings would just be a standard size fitment Tbh, in what way are they different and what do I need to be measuring to identify which I need?

The pistons and rods came out of a D6c engine if that helps at all?

The ring's can be 2 different height's and or the groves can wear so making the thinner ring quite sloppy in the groove,

Bearings are easy to order in, I do both std Alloy or lead/copper types, You can send me the piston to size up if needed, But rings are around £100.00 per complete set

Thanks for the info Miles.

I am waiting to hear from someone who says they can supply them. If this falls through I will be in touch.

I'd highly recommend South Wales pistons, just take your piston down there with you, and the crank with the old bearings, and they'll sort you out

As said, ignore anyone saying they can supply without seeing the piston first and checking,
