Help And Advice

Recommended Posts

Guest Marcus

So im in need of some advice. I've been having some issues with my pug 205 1.6 gti f reg 1989. The person i bought the car off decided to run a wire from the ignition to the fuel pump under my rear seats. I found this when i was removing the sub wiring in the boot and noticed he had earthed it to the pump. I removed this and the wire that went to the ignition.

Upon trying to start the car it wouldnt and i realised what the wire was for. So i have plugged in the white wire and green wire back into the d connecter. Now the car starts, but i noticed the pump stays on, even when the keys are removed. If i unplug the connector it doesnt start the pump. It only starts the pump when i run the car. So not knowing alot about cars and learning as i go i need some advice.

Is this normal should the pump stay on ?. Ive not left it longer than 2 minutes to see if it turns off or not.

If it does need to stay on how long for ?

If it's not surpost to be on all the time what would cause this to happen ?

And would replacing the relay fix the issue ?

Thanks in advance

Marcus

sounds like he has wired the fuel pump up to run non stop, i know mine primes for about 10-15 seconds when turning ignition on then stops

check out www.buzzbox.co.uk-haynes_205

theres a manual there which will give you all the wiring diagrams and has the fuel pump wire number as all wires are numbered

no doubt someone will be able to help you out abit more later on
