A mandrel bender is going to cost you hundreds of thousands of pounds, far more economical to buy in the bends that you need!

Maybe if you were an expert fabricator, but definitely not for the inexperienced!

Well unless there's some manual ones I don't know about..

BTB's CNC bender was £0.5 million if I remember right, and a manual hydraulic one will still set you back a fair bit.

Even a cheap, second hand hydraulic exhaust-type bender'll cost you a couple of grand...

Then you need space to put it, a hydraulic pump, and 3-phase supply.

well here is what i have done REMOVED material on the bend and re-welded it. i used stainless wire aswell. you need to ensure you do not get any welding wire left in the pipe!!

i feel its almost better than buying the bends (which i did 2 years ago using the crapy merlin pipe which seems to rot straight out!) as then there was so many welds and some of the bends were wrong any way so had to change them anyway.

It's called lobster tailing and it works pretty well if you're good with a grinder, just got to be careful on the amount of penetration.

i used a plasma cutter

not long bought one :D

when welding you also need to be carfull with how you go about it to ensure the mig wire does not go into the exhaust as i have seen people dong it pretty bad before!

it was the first time i have used the stainless wire and as expected it welds like normal.......

would be easier to tig weld that.Get it tacked in place with the mig then tig it.

TIG is only any good if you can do it though! If you're rubbish at welding you're going to have a very hard time.

Anyone can MIG something like that, just set the amps high and run a series of tacks if you don't have the talent / experience to MIG nicely.

the welds were more constant, and was pretty good :) i have done tig welding with mild steel which seems easy untill you have a go with the rod

Mild steel is probably one of the more hassly things to weld as it spits and the pool wanders. Stainless is where it's at.

I'd just find the cash to either buy a system from someone like Miles who does a proven 205 exhaust system that's not noisy, or any of the aftermarket exhaust builders out there and make sure they do it top your spec.
