Abs Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have phase 2 GTI with ABS originaly fitted to the car. It didn't work since I bought the car, there is always yellow "ABS" light , lighting on the dashboard.

Few days ago I've connected the plug under the bonnet (wide blue plug going into the ABS beside the battery) , and connect the cable on the left front wheel (abs cable there was ripped). All the cables and connections now are connected and everything should work (even in a wrong way !! ) , but nothing changed, the wheels are not acting like in ABS system and yellow light is still ON.

What else I can check and how I can make it work again ?

Thanks for help,

Mike

There are only two sensors at the front looking at tthe diagram on Autodata.

You can check the wheel sensor resistance from the ecu plug by bridging a multimeter across pins 18 & 35 for the l/h one or 16 & 33 for the r/h.

You are looking for figures between 1000-1400ohm.

I've attached the screen prints of the test in a zip file.

Graham.

I've got the same problem on my GTi. All my connectors on the ABS pump were dirty and i cleaned them up and it worked for a while.. Also, if the face of the sensors are dirty, that can cause a problem too. (The bit that faces the driveshaft) I'd personally clean up all the wiring that you can and go from there.

You do know you have to wait for the light to go out before you start the engine right?

To be completely honest, i would just take it out, ABS on a 205 is far too much hassle than it's worth.

"You do know you have to wait for the light to go out before you start the engine right?" Not in my 205, in fact the light will not go off until the engine is started in my car.

I would suggest replacing the sensors as mine both died shortly after 100,000 miles. New ones are silly money but the 405 mi uses a similar ones that fit and work perfectly (I have had them in my car for 4 years).

Failing that its just a matter of swapping the pump or the ecu for a know good one.
