Bbm Mounts - How Much Vibration Is Normal?

Recommended Posts

Masekwm

Hello,

Fitted the upper BBM engine mount yesterday and packed the buffers, did a few other bits and pieces and today the whole car appears to vibrate.

Is this usual? Or am I off on another magical mystery tour of a broken 8v.

Keith

They will settle in over a few thousand miles, each and every time I have fitted the lower mount bush it has rattled my teeth out, but soon enough they settle in.

Have you fitted the solid bush in the lower engine mount fork? A little white coloured one? If not as Tom said above. I found the little white one a little harsh for road use. But that is personal preference. The BBM mounts are bloody grand and improved my car no end :)

I had the solid lower fork bush and diesel lower mount bush, they've been on the car for a few thousand miles.

Fitted yesterday the BBM upper engine mount and packed the buffers against it with washers in place of a cheap ECP mount and today have lots of vibration.

The obvious thing would just be to swap it back but I won't get a chance until Thursday so was wondering if this was normal?

Well you have packed the mount which usually allows movement and vibration to be damped out, so it follows that you are going to feel more in the car. What did you expect?

are those the BBM buffers as well? if so, std buffers will soften it alot

i used to switch between a std mount and a BBM top mount, depending on season (both with std buffers), due to the vibration. uprated one makes a big difference though

I have them and did not notice the vib but on a stripped out rally car it wouldn't bother me any way! :)

It's the buffers and little white acetal fork bush that makes the most difference, so just these left standard is a good halfway-house, they settle down after time also as said anyway too.

I'll pop the standard buffers back in then, I had the ECP mount packed the same, I got quite a shock when I started the car :)

I've got the BBM gearbox mount, engine mount and buffers along with the diesel lower bush and it's fine, settled in nicely after a few hundred miles, fine for road use IMO.

If I were you I'd unpack the buffers and give it a few miles on the BBM stuff to see what you think once it all beds in.
