Best T16 Gearbox

Recommended Posts

hugovox4

Hii, i have pourchased a complete T16 engine in my country(PERU) and i want to put in my 205 GTI, after a little search in this forum i have looked at 2 gearboxes

XANTIA ACTIVA TURBO GEARBOX, XANTIA TURBO DIESEL GEARBOX(both of them in a sort of scrapyard)

Also I have a XM v6 24v gearbox, the 205 gti 1.6 gearbox and the citroen BX 16 soupapes gearbox

Wich one in your opinion will be the best for that turbo engine, i'm aiming for 300 hp.

Many thanks.

Maybe as a weekend track day car(nothing professional or agressive), but street driveable. Now it has a roll cage and bilstein group N suspension.

Later i will spend some money in big brakes.

if you want a strong gearbox then the ML is the one to go for, for ease of fitment in a 205 a BE is the one to use.

XM Turbo is an ML afaik with an XU bellhousing, the Xantia Diesel may use the ML or a BE.

V6 bellhousing will not fit though the internals may be of use in the XM turbo casing.

1.6 gti will fit straight in but is probably too short, depends on the road speeds, they wouldn't be very good for uk or european motorway cruising as it would be near peak boost at 120-130 kph

bx 16v is another BE box which would go straight in, with fairly good gear ratios.

with the ML gearbox you can use the T16 clutch, but with the BE you have to use XU9J4 or XU10J4 clutch and flywheel.
