Sad Testing

Recommended Posts

A bit of background. I bought a '89 1.9 8v which the previous owner had attempted to fix a head gasket but had disturbed the wet liner. I've rebuilt the engine and it now starts first time everytime. When it fires the revs get to 2.5k then slowly drop. When the revs reach ~2k it cuts out and dies unless the throttle is blipped. I had a man around at the weekend to diagnose it and he recommended checking the sad wiring then replacing the unit. He checked the cam timing and set the throttle switch, idle screw, afm and dizzy so all those should be fine. He couldn't hear any leaks either. Does this sound like a SAD issue?

I have read the guides about testing and it showed no sign of closing after a few minutes on a battery. I have checked the wiring between earth and a white wire (18A?) on the afm.

Should there be continuity between the two pins? I assume this is for the heater?

I've read about the 90 bend from the SAD under the inlet mani perishing so will check that.

Finally does anyone have a SAD they would be willing to lend/sell so I can rule it out for definate?

Thanks,

Rob

I have the same problem on a gti, haven't been able to sort it out.

Tried to change the SAD, AFM but nothing.

The car starts, idles at some 2000 rpm, then after some 14s it drops and shuts down unless the throtle gets blipped.

Tried to adjust the heel out of everything, everything hapens the same but at different rpm's, but with no result.

If you manage to sort this out I'd be glad to hear about it...
