Driveshaft Diagnosis

Recommended Posts

donkeymatt

Hi everyone - in the middle of changing the right hand side driveshaft, on a French 1992 Gentry. 1,9 L. After taking consultation from a parts website, which promised to supply the right part based on the registration document.... after trying it in place, the spline into the hub is too big. :P

After measuring up the existing driveshaft:

24 teeth on the box side spline

21 teeth on the hub spline

Total length = 842mm

Support bearing positioned 335 mm from the box end of the shaft

Any possibility of help diagnosing the part number?! Are the driveshafts on the Gentry the same as a 1,6 or a 1,9L?

The drive shafts in the Gentry would be the same as the 1.6 GTi.The shart you got must be for a 1.9 GTi which is bigger at the hub end.

I had this problem with factors, It usually happens when your car is right at the start or end of a model run and not even the manufacturer knows what parts are fitted! Best thing to do is look through the factors driveshaft catalogue yourself, they usually have measurements in them, and match up with is most likely. Never trust their computer systems!

Right, been through the catalogue and fingers crossed have found the replacement! Starting to regret getting a "special edition" now!!

Thanks for the help!
