Mi16 Conversion Problems

Recommended Posts

Over the weekend i have been putting an Mi16 into a 1.6 gti and have run in to a couple of problems i have tried to search the forum but failed and was hoping for some help.

The engine i have put in already has a 1.6 gearbox on and dropped it all staight in, when connecting the gear linkages back up i noticed the connection to the new gearbox was like a dog leg shape rather than the flat one off the old gear box which i changed, when i came to put the driveshafts back in, the passenger side on was about 1cm to long :P is this a normal problem? and is there a shaft that will fit.

The second problem i have is that the engine has been in a 309 goodwood and has a link loom with it to convert it and i was wondering if firstly 309 wiring looms are the same as 205 and if so is the 1.6 the same as the 1.9.

This information might be somewhere else on the forum so apologise if it is but any help would be appriciated.

Cheers Rich

309 looms are basically the same - one of the underdash connectors is different, but you can carefully remove the pins and swap it for a 205 connector. Check the starter and ignition wires are round the correct way, as Peugeot changed them between Phase 1.5 and Phase 2 cars.

As for the gearbox, are you sure it's a 1.6 GTi box? Sounds like a later 'box off something like a 306 or Xsara to me, which would explain the selector arm and diff.

Thanks for that, im not sure of the history of the box but apart from the selecter arm it looks the same, i'll try a new driveshaft and if not ill use the old box. and cheers for the wiring info
