stuart1298 6 Posted June 12, 2010 I'm not, but when i am due for some tyres, i am thinking about it, anyone got a pic to see if they look much nicer, and if they make much difference with handling,

pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted June 12, 2010 I'm not, but when i am due for some tyres, i am thinking about it, anyone got a pic to see if they look much nicer, and if they make much difference with handling, i'll grab some pics later, think im running 50's on the rear (they were knocking about in the garage) but with the rallye arches i had serious scraping on the front even on a -30mm drop. jord294 92 Posted June 12, 2010 (edited) anyone running admiral p712 ? i've read some reviews, and they seem to be a very good tyre any feedback on these tyres or are they classed as 'hedgefinders' ? cheers Edited June 12, 2010 by jord294
backroadpug 12 Posted June 12, 2010 i have 195/45/15s on my rallye just fitted 2 new proxes on the back last week by thursday n/s/r was flat hit a pot hole and it nicked the bead against the rim and split(great) so another new one needed handeling feels a lot more responsive but it does make the ride a bit hard if i use 195/50/15s as soon as i have some one in the car they scuff when you hit a bump http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/yy289/b...205/rallye3.jpg
welshpug 1,657 Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) there's one pair 45's on this 205 of Sarty's, and they're horrible compared to the 50's, which are the same tyre. much less sidewall give over bumps which gives a crashy harsh ride, and also due to the lack of give they let go with far less warning on the back, no drift, just a snap. if I had to fit the wrong size I'd go for 195-50. never heard of Admiral, they do indeed sound like ditch/hedge finders Edited June 14, 2010 by welshpug
Baz 421 Posted June 14, 2010 Yep; They make the arches look a little cavernous, i don't think i'd choose them again although they're not that much different. Handling-wise you do notice the less-sidewall flex on the transition between grip and none, but comfort-wise they're not that much different tbh.
jord294 92 Posted June 14, 2010 thanks guys further investigation tells me the size of tyre is often used on 106s/saxos i know a couple of people in the village who i'm sure i can offload them too admiral, are supposedly a very good all round budget tyre (according to reviews)
welshpug 1,657 Posted June 14, 2010 I'd hope they were all round don't want square tyres
Anthony 1,003 Posted June 14, 2010 admiral, are supposedly a very good all round budget tyre "Very good" and "budget tyre" in the same sentence? Contradiction in terms, surely? I can't personally see why you'd go for 45's anyway unless you're running a base model 205 with the resulting rear arch limitations, and I certainly can't see why if you're buying new tyres you'd actually spend good money on hedgefinders! Budget tyres have their place I admit, but on a GTi that you've spent alot of time and money on certainly isn't one of them! There's plenty of choice of proven, recommended good tyres for £30 a corner in 195/50R15 that I really can't see why you'd do anything else?
GeorgeXS 32 Posted June 14, 2010 I fit quite a few admirals last summer and whilst having never driven with a set on they are meant to be alright for the money. I *think* i remember them being owned by Kuhmo and thus being Kuhmo patterns from a few years back AFAIK.

shalmaneser 26 Posted June 17, 2010 Wow they do look a bit skinny don' they! Can't beat T1Rs for £35 a corner IMO.

blessed6383 0 Posted June 17, 2010 I have 45's on mine as came on the car but will be going back to 195/50's as the do fill the arch that bit better as for ride cant say i noticed the difference on my old pug (205) but it was slammed 60mm so every bump was a back breaker lol wont go that low again. As for which tyres to go for im a fan of toyo prox's bu they dont last that long but do stick well i found
