Pas Worth It?

Recommended Posts

davey205

I have been toying with the idea for sometime of getting pas, its probably been covered before if so my apologies just wanted to get some up to date feedback.

My driving style is careful by the book with the very occasional B road blast. (Within speed limits).

My last Gti had power steering but its been so long i can't remember what it was like.

EDIT: > Also quick question would the electric window setup from a 5 door work ok?

I converted my 1.9 GTI to PAS and was very happy as found it heavy to park as standard.

Currently fitting pas to my GTi. Steering can be a tad heavy at slow speeds and parking especially when you've been driving a modern pas car. You do loose a slight bit of the raw steering feel though. It also means you don't have to wrestle the steering wheel when you're giving it the beans on the twisties and reaching for gears etc.

I don't really like PAS outside of parking.

205 PAS is quite a nice setup and not over-assisted and lacking feel like PAS is on most cars - naturally you do lose a small amount of feel though compared to non-PAS though, as expected.

I was never that taken with 205 PAS, but having done a few miles in my GTI-S (which has PAS) I actually quite it, and driving my 1.9 (without PAS) now feels quite unwieldy by comparison

I've had 2 gtis with and 2 without, its nice for parking, and isnt to bad when ya hammering round corners, you still got a lot of feeling through the steering wheel, its nothing like the new cars where you dont feel a thing, pas is a 100% must in my eyes, then again, my arms are about the size of twiglets

Ohh, i see your thinking of converting to PAS to help your poor arms while parking. Or maybe you could just use the fact that YOUR A MAN, you don't need no girly pas FOOL, heres a tip, get snickers, remove wrapper, GET SOME NUTS!

I'm fitting PAS to my 205 soon, simply for the increase in steering ratio. The standard GTI rack is awful, nearly 4 turns lock to lock, you are twirling the steering about like driving a bloody dodgem car.

PAS is good, Xsara VTS PAS is even better, for the reason Tom describes above.
