Yo just wondering what kind of ill effects would I see if the ignition amp was on its way out?

Rev-limter like misfire around 4000rpm is a common one, misfire at high-revs, or misfiring throughout the rev range.

Sometimes when the car warms up and you turn it off and try to start it again it wont start.

its just i bought a working ignition amp of someone on here and still have the old one on gti I have no idea how old the one on car is now it could be 20 year

 

I have noticed erratic rev rising once warm also sometimes when its warm and i have been away from it for say 5-10min start it again it starts but suddenly die restart it again and its fine, sound like possible amp?
