Bird Strike!

Recommended Posts

I was (ahem) doing the national speed limit along a B-road this morning and having a jolly good time I must say. Ahead of me were a flock of wood pigeons and a flat right.

I didn't lift and one of the pigeons decided to arse butt the leading edge of the bonnet - it has bent it back slightly. Nothing that won't quickly beat out, but I doubt Mr Pigeon has been so lucky; in fact he's probably in another county.

So what have you collected in your Pug?

i nudged a rabbit along a little bit in my old 205(mi)whilst doing around 80-90mph (on a private road  ) and broke the front bumper and made a nasty mess on the n/s wing and door luckly my pug was black so the juice's didn't show up much at night lol but i did have to stop and inspected th half front bumper BAS**RD rabbit but think he went to a better place without his fur as it seemed to be keeping the bottom of my ar warm lol

Pheasants, they are so dumb! I think I accidently took out about 4 in the past year, I didn't make any attempt to hit them, nor avoid them for that matter. They just sit there, gawping at you all gormless like, then doof! I think I may still have some remains on my wishbones actually.

i hit a bird in the vec once it was a sparrow or somthing, left a nice smear of blood up the passenger side of the screen from the bottm, and the noise made my mate sat in the passenger seat jump and try to cling on to me with fear, whilst i was driving at 60/70 or somthing down a nice scottish road.

i hit a cat at about 50 in the pug, it wasnt a good day, i slammed the brakes on but by that time it was already under the car. it just decided to make a dash across the road at 0300 in the morning right in front of me, i went back and had a look at it to make sure it was dead, if it wasnt i would have taken it to a vet or called one out. i went round the next day to the local houses and talked to a few people and put a letter saying what had happend through the doors of people that wern't in. left a fair bit of cat on my front valance though which i had to jet wash off

I hit a pigeon at "around the speed limit" in my old 306, it hit the screen right in front of my face, needless to say I ducked!

I also hit a whole family of deer once, they were running out in front of me in a huge line and I ploughed through 2 of them and another ran into my door. They all got up and ran off.

that must have done a fair bot of damage to the car! what was it you were driving at the time? you're lucky to not have been hurt yourself from stories that i've heard about others hitting dear

has anyone hit a badger? i bet that would do a shed load of damage to a car! it would certainly take a section of the front valance out. and then theres all the underside mess that it would leave too.

My friend worked for network rail, he found an injured badger on the tracks and decided to put it out of its misery with the arse end of a shovel, the first wack upon its bonce didn't do the trick, just echo'd!

I nearly ran over a cat yesterday, it was ginger though.

Took the head clean off a rabbit in the Almera I had a few years ago. Didn't cause any damage to the car at all which was surprising, just some blood and fur in the foglight blanking cover. I hit a cat at about 20mph around the same time too. Got out to see if it was ok and it was just sat on a wall staring at me like "ow, you little f***, that hurt!"

I too hit a pigeon whilst 'driving at the legal speed limit' in my WRX and it showered both lanes with feathers. Last thing to go through its poor little head was it's arse

i too work for NR, and have seen many a dead animal, many dear, many bdagers, tons of fox's a load of seagulls and several cats, most of which have literaly been sliced head to tail, or across their body, and are perfect aprt from that, its a bit odd. but when hit at 125mph by a thin metal wheel thats what happens. the worst i've seen is a cow that was hit, blood splat all over the front of the train, and a little crack in the front too. the train had had to stop to be clensed of all the blood etc before being able to go through a station. just so happens that we were working near where it stopped.

the best 'comedy' thing i've seen was a dead fox been with a load of large birds of prey picking at it. they flew off as we approached to walk past, on the way back the fox was still there, and a few feet away were 2 birds too, but with no heads. a train must have come along and they didnt hear/see it so stayed eating the fox and got decapitated as it went over them!

The most unusual thing I've hit was a sheep in one of my old 205 whilst over in Wales a few years back.

Stupid thing decided to jump out from the side of the road into my car, whereby it bounced off the front wing and sailed through the air for a few meters. It looked a bit stunned (unsurpirsingly given it had just got hit by a car doing 20-30mph!) but nevertheless got back onto its feet, and wondered off.

I was expecting to find a crumpled front end and glass everywhere, but no - the panzer-like 205 suffered nothing more than a cracked indicator lens from memory

Slamming on the brakes mid-corner because of a pigeon? Does that *really* seem sensible?

Nope, no damage apart from a dent in the door! Luckily I hit the arse of one and the head of another, so they just got spun out of the way instead of mullering my front end.

My mate's brother hit a badger on his motorbike when he was about 17, flipped over the front and broke his arm.

Badgers are hardy wee buggers, I hit one in my 106 coming home about 1am, doing about 40mph it hit right in the middle of the car, it had bent the bar where the rad sits and bust the rad completely.

Little sod wasn't there the next morning so must of survived.

I've always known this as the bunny bar - because that's what the bunny hits when you run it over.
