Afm Advice

Recommended Posts

blessed6383

i have an mi16 AFM and the wiring is gti loom in my car

can i wire up the 16v AFM to work or is it not possible due to the ecu being a 1600?

know that may sound like a silly question but never know unless you ask :)

if not will a 1900 AFM work or do they need to be matched to the ecu?

have heard people have problems when fitting AFM from other cars(same size engine)

so just wondered on the best advice

cheers

1.6 and 1.9 GTi's run Jetronic management and Mi16's Motronic, so you can't use an Mi16 AFM with a GTi ECU/loom

Ideally you need 1.9 ECU and injectors if you're going to use a 1.9 AFM - keep all the fuelling parts matched, otherwise you can get strange under/over fuelling problems.

I would strongly recommend that you ditch the GTi management that you're trying to run and just use a complete Mi16 management setup though - it will run much better like that and be a much nicer conversion.

cheers bud yer will be as soon as i can track down a mi16 loom a sensible cost

it has mi16/1900 8v injectors (yellow) and a 1600 de-limited ecu

is there any way of getting the car to run without the AFM plugged in so i can check it fires up ok?

It'll try and fire without an AFM, but it won't run properly the AFM plugged in.

1.9 injectors and 1.6 AFM isn't ideal either btw.

Ditto, you need a 1.9 ECU and Dizzy for that matter, Not the std 16v one

so it makes no difference that its de-limited by constella 1600) then i will still need a 1900 ecu

the dizzy is from a 92 1900gti

i plan to just start again with a mi16 loom ecu and afm if i can just know the car will fire over to make sure the lump is still a gooden,

Not at all, the De-limiting part takes a few seconds to do and effect's nothing else bar re-moving the Rev limit,

I;ve sold these in the past and it was a easy money maker
