Limits At 5.5k In 1st Gear

hi, recently put a second hand engine in my 1.9 gti 205 and it seems to only rev to 5.5k in first gear and seems to drag a little. all the other gears it revs higher and seems alot more sprited.

 

most the ignition side of things are new, but seems to idle at 1k all the time with the idle screw right in, the co is spot on.

 

any suggestions would be great. cheers mark.

1k with screw right in would indicate air leak or incorrect throttle cable / throttle stop screw adjustment.

 

I wouldnt of thought this is related to your 1st gear issue.

probably just the rev counter not keeping up with the engine speed!
