205 Mi16 Struggles Up Top

Recommended Posts

craig_007

Gave my car a good thrashing the other day and it seemed to go not bad what I did notice though,When I selected 5th gear at 100/110mph the car didn't want to pick up as quick and keep reving,It seemed like it would have tooken forever to gain anymore speed ?! (All testing carried out on private airfield of course)

Is this norm for a mi16,It's using a 1600 box also.

If not has anyone got any idea as to why this would be ?

Car has carbs fitted and the fuelling is spot on as I have an AFR gauge in the car.

It also has an H&H distributer fitted,I don't know how accurate the ignition advance is though,Could this cause the problem described ?

Ignition timing would be a good place to start if the fuelling isn't a problem. What sort of air filter do you have on the carbs?

It's got a sausage filter (ITG) If I recall correctly.

It's wired lined on the inside so I don't think that would be causing any problems with collasping under high revs.

Well something definately a miss,

Had the car on the rollers today and it only made 120bhp at the fly with 90 at the wheels.

Investigation starts now !!

Cam timing is the obvious guess as it was set up by myself during the rebuild.

Fuelling was good for the power that it was making !!
