Just wonder :)

with a standard air duct (no tb or carbs) and standard ecu, how much bhp can I expect from an XU9 8v? and from a mi16?

Many thanks ^_^

Standard 8v in fine fettle will nudge peugeots claims well mine did so ~130hp.

Mi16, depends which one but upto ~160hp must be in good health.

Cheers

thanks mate, but I meant a soft tuned XU (cam, 4-2-1, etc) how much extra power do I expect?

Cheers ;)

I think most people see 8-10bhp increase with slight torque increases. if you want some proper gains on the standard XU lump then you need to look to higher CR ratio, throttlebodies or carbs with some management.

Many forum users have seen gains of up to 10% by making sure the back seat is always folded down.

McDude, I think you have that wrong.

Logically, the only way to get a gain like that is to paint the calipers red. to claim that power increase by folding the rear seats is just ludicrous

Poppicock! Folding the rear seats down will show improvements in peak torque, max power, bump and grind, braking distances, glossy coat and healthy teeth. It will also improve voter turn out.

The fact that uniaricflocos has pointed out this thread is a re-post by the originator dating back 3 years just provides more evidence to suggest I am right.

Depends on budget really.

The original question was what is the max power with the standard inlet manifold and ECU for the 1.9 8V and the Mi16 which is actually a fairly reasonable question, no? Its not as open ended as some of the replies would suggest.

I would say the answer is about 155-160 bhp for the 1.9 8v and about 185-190 bhp for the 1.9 Mi16 but that is just an educated guess.

I think the problem is it's open to debate, see whilst i used to think the figures posted above would be fair, these days i don't.

Certainly not on standard inlets etc anyway!

the figures above seem bout right for what I have seen in the past, from pug engines, though I don't think the MI16 inlet is much different to the gti6 in peak flow capacity, and they have been used for over 240 bhp N/A.

they were no road engines though

Btw I'm a mi16 fan, but here in Italy a guy with a 1.9 8v (forged pistons, rally cam, 4-2-1) in a drag race 0-400m 14.3 sec , impressive!

This 205 has 169 bhp at 7800 rpm, camshaft are about 290°. It runs on standard inlet manifold, AFM and ECU.

With a real weight of 810 Kg, it runs 0-200 m in 9,3 s, and 0-400 m in 14.3 s. Not so bad for good and honest 8V

I bet it doesn't idle very well

Probably set to idle around 1200+ rpm. Very good power for a 1.9 8v on standard inlet 169bhp!.

Idle is about at 1500/1600 rpm, it is' t a road engine.

The throttle pedal is a switch indeed, it only has 2 ways: fully up or fully down

Yesterday this surprising Italian 205 1.9 GTI 8V with standard managment set a very impressive time in an official Drag Racing in Forlì: 0-200 m 9,11 sec, 0-100 Km/h 5,18 sec. ;)

Car weight is 788 Kg (65,5% on front axle), rear tyres are 155/80/14, front tyres are 200 54 13.
